My name is Liisa and I am a third year DPhil student in the Department of Biochemistry as well as the president of the Middle Common Room (MCR) at Hertford. This means that I am in charge of ensuring that everything runs smoothly in the MCR, representing the views of graduate students in College and beyond, as well as listening to your ideas and concerns.
The MCR exists as a social and academic hub for graduate students at the College that aims to support you throughout your studies and enrich your experience of Oxford. The MCR functions foremost as a community of graduates – we enjoy spending time together eating, studying, socialising, and often also living. Through these shared experiences close friendships are created that you will be able to take with you beyond Oxford. The events we put on through the academic year will hopefully give you a welcome and well-deserved break from your work and allow you to meet many interesting people from within and outside of our community.
Oxford is an incredible place to live and study. Getting involved in the MCR activities can really enrich your time here and help you experience Oxford to the full. We are a group of students who organise events for students, therefore if there are any events you would like to see in the termcard (and/or help organise) then please let me or one of the committee know!
I am looking forward to welcoming you to Hertford! If you have any questions or queries feel free to drop me an email, and if you would just like to say hi: I live in NB Quad at the top of the MCR tower and am always keen for a cup of tea and a biscuit (or two)!
